General Protocols

Credentials

Press credentials are not the property of any correspondent or publication, and must be turned in to the gallery at the end of an internship or termination of employment.

For instructions on replacing lost or misplaced credentials, please contact gallery staff.

Attire

House and Senate rules require appropriate professional attire when Congress is in session.

Decorum

Correspondents are expected to maintain the highest level of professionalism at all times.

Speaker's Lobby

Accredited correspondents can request to see House members in the Speaker's Lobby, located directly behind the Speaker's Chair in the House Chamber on the second floor. Interview requests are placed, in writing, at the House staff desk in the Speaker's Lobby. House staff will then notify members of interview requests.

Pen and pad and handheld recording devices ARE permitted in the Speaker's Lobby. Please leave food and drink, cell phones, or large bags in the gallery.

House Chamber

Laptop computers and cell phones are permitted inside the House Chamber. However, electronic devices must be set to silent mode, and no audio or video may be recorded.
